Ciara shares her makeup story
- How did you get into artistry?
I honestly fell into artistry quite randomly! I’ve always been drawn to art and anything creative, but it was actually my friends who first encouraged me to explore makeup. They would ask me to do their makeup for nights out, and then while we were out, other people would compliment their makeup and ask who had done it. That’s when I started thinking, maybe I’m actually quite good at this!
What I loved most was seeing how makeup could completely transform someone’s mood and confidence. There’s something so rewarding about making someone feel beautiful, confident and amazing in themselves. That feeling is what made me want to pursue artistry properly.
- What does being a makeup artist mean to you?
To me, makeup artistry is so much more than just applying makeup. It’s about creativity, self expression and, most importantly, making someone feel confident and amazing in their own skin.
- What VIEVE products do you always keep in your kit and why?
All my followers will know how much I love VIEVE products! I always say that the products feel almost like skincare and are so easy to work with, which is exactly what I look for in my kit.
My top five products my kit can’t live without:
Modern Radiance Cream Bronzer: Love, love, love! It’s so pigmented and creamy, and blends so easily. It gives the skin such a gorgeous, healthy warmth.
Skin Nova: Amazing underneath makeup and equally beautiful on its own for those no makeup days. I love bringing it down onto the neck and chest too for an all over radiant finish.
Icon Mascara: My favourite mascara ever! Those who know me know how much I swear by this one. I’ve put so many of my clients onto it and they always thank me for the recommendation. I find it so hard to find a dramatic mascara that doesn’t transfer with my eye shape, and this one just doesn’t even on holiday! Obsessed.
Invisiveil Setting Spray: So hydrating and it smells amazing. I love using this throughout makeup to help blend all the layers together and take away any overly powdery finish. I don’t think I’ve sprayed this on a client without them saying, “That smells amazing!”
Bounce Balm: Never not on me! I love applying this before bed like a lip mask, especially going into the colder months. It’s definitely a staple for my handbag too.
- What advice would you give aspiring makeup artists?
Stay consistent, keep learning and put yourself out there. Do content days, create opportunities for yourself and be present on social media.
Most importantly, be professional, kind, reliable and open to feedback. Your talent will get you noticed, but your attitude, work ethic and the way you make people feel will help you build lasting relationships and a successful career.
- Who are your biggest artistic influences, in or outside of makeup?
I’m inspired by artists and creatives who have a strong signature style, pay incredible attention to detail and continually evolve with the industry.
Jamie Genevieve, of course! She’s so relatable and inspiring for so many of us makeup artists, and I love how she has built such a strong brand around her artistry and personality.
Kellsey Bain is another huge inspiration. I love seeing how quickly you can grow within the industry through social media, and how a career in makeup can take you all over the world.
Molly-Mae is also someone I really admire. I love that she’s still so young but has achieved so much, and I really connect with her mindset that if there’s something you want, you can work towards it and make it happen. I find that really motivating.
Outside of makeup, I take a lot of inspiration from fashion, photography and beauty trends. I genuinely believe inspiration can come from anywhere, but I especially love following relatable people who motivate me to keep growing and be successful.
- What makes a great MUA in your eyes, beyond technique?
A great makeup artist should make their clients feel comfortable, confident and genuinely beautiful.
Of course, technique is important, but I think the experience you create is just as important. It’s about listening to your client, understanding what makes them feel their best and making them feel completely at ease in your chair.
It’s not just about the makeup it’s about the way you make someone feel when they leave.

The programme is open to professional makeup artists across the industry — whether you're in film, TV, bridal, theatre, or fashion. Apprentices and students in training are welcome too.
